5 5 5 Stars - 201 Dining
Well worth the trip from anywhere in the area. Occuppying what was once a circa 1850 stagecoach stop and hotel, the atmosphere is historic and charming. Never mind that the service is spot on and they get all the basics right - tender veal, perfectly cooked seafood, al dente pasta, crisp vegatables - it's the flavors that will bring you back.
5 Stars - Zagat - "Feel 200 Years of History"
...and see lots of paintings and flowers too in the "charming old house" that's the home of this "quiet, elegant" Tappan Italian whose "delicious", "familiar fare is expertly done" "with a light touch" and delivered by an "attentive" staff that "really tries to please"; in sum, "a lovely little oasis"
5 Stars - Zagat - "Wonderfully Quaint"
... onetime stagecoach stop serves as the backdrop for “good”, “authentic” Northern Italian cooking at this “lovely” if lesser-known Tappan spot located in a “historical neighborhood”; it’s a tad “expensive”, and portions are perhaps “tiny”, but softly lit, flower-bedecked dining rooms add to the “perfect ambiance” that helps make it “worth a trip.”

You'll get a taste of times gone when you visit this unique restaurant that was once a 1850s hotel and stagecoach stop. Locals love the grilled Portobello mushroom - which is like a cut of steak - with a side salad and balsamic reduction.

Il Portico is a real gem!
OpenTable Diner Since 2016 Dined on February 27, 2016Il Portico is a special place. I'd eaten here twice before as part of a group and always thought that it would be a nice place for a romantic meal with a special someone, and I was right. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was fantastic and entree portions were significant. Overall, everything about the evening was special. The pace of the courses was unhurried and we were given significant time between them to talk and sip our wine. Never once did I feel hurried to give up my table for an awaiting group, which made our night as romantic as I'd imagined that it would be. Waited too long! lifeisgood Dined on January 20, 2016We did not realize how much we had enjoyed Il portico until we went back after too many years...will not let that happen again. Great experience from the moment we walked in the door, drinks apps dinner desert. Service was superb and the food memorable. We will be back soon.... |
